My homegirl DJ Lindsey is a busy gal.  Although she spends nights DJings here and there all over the Rotten Apple, she does have a day job.  She works at the stupid popular Opening Ceremony retail space here in NYC. 

Very soon, OC will be unlocking the door to their new location in Tokyo, Japan.  And what better way to hype this great news to get Lindsey and her husband, DJ Myles, to construct a special mix as a companion soundtrack.  Oh, and they get to fly to Japan and spin at the grand opening as well.  Lucky asses.  For now, we can close our eyes, play this mix and pretend like we’re there.

As long as these two lovebirds keep churning these out, I’ll continue to post them.  Just to refresh your memories real quick, DJs Myles and Lindsey do an event called The Hump here in NYC every Wednesday (aka “Hump Day”) where they play nothing but music from 1998 to 1998.  One of my favorite places to go.  And sometimes they make these little companion mixes to get people familiar w/ the vibe of the party.

Their first mix was a straight, to-the-point “ooooh factor” lesson, the second was a tribute to the West.  And just in time for Valentine’s Day, they give you the third volume: ALL SLOW JAMS.  Act like you know.

I should have posted these a long time ago.  Better late than never. 

Here are some pics (courtesy of Ms. G. Piedmonte) from a little shindig I hosted here in NY to celebrate the impending launch of this here blog.  The party:  The Hump @ Blue Owl, located in the heart of the East Village.  DJs Myles and Lindsey (along w/ a guest set by DJ Tahleim) provided hip-hop, R&B, dance and more from the years of 1988 – 1998. 

Those were pretty much my defining years.  I moved to Long Island in 1989 (6th grade) and I graduated high school in 1995, just to name a couple of milestones.  So it was nostalgia all night.  And I was glad to share it w/ my peeps.  Plus the flyer that Grotesk laced me with was hot fire.  I wish I had some stickers or something ready to give out.  But that idea is still happening, so stay tuned.

If you live in New York, The Hump happens every Wednesday.  And I’m pretty much there every single week.  I guess that makes me a “regular.”  Not many places in Manhattan where you can go for free, drink cheap, come as you are and listen to classic upon classic until you’re ready to go home.

I’m-a keep this short and sweet.  The two nerds above (DJs Myles and Lindsey) host a party every Wednesday here in NYC called The Hump @ Blue Owl, located in the East Village.  All joints ’88 to ’98.  I had the pleasure of hosting one a couple of weeks ago to celebrate the launch of this here blog.  For those of you who missed it or just don’t live in NYC, peep the mix they did that pretty much represents the vibe and fun of the party.  I highly recommend it for you folks that have to sit at a desk for most of the day like me.
