Just when you thought they disappeared into the mist, J*DaVeY is back with another FREE EP to add to their Great Mistapes series.  Everyone went silly over Boudoir Synema back in December of 2009 (Christ on a pony, has it been that long?) and the same effect was gained with this new offering.  If everything goes according to plan, all signs point to a release of New Designer Drug, their long-awaited official major label release, in the very near future.  But we’re not complaining about free music in the meantime.  Peep a quick blurb about Evil Christian Cop below…

Evil Christian Cop was inspired by the dark undercurrents that exist in the phrase “To protect and serve.” As producer Brook D’Leau explains, “Why should we rely on an evil stranger to protect and serve when you have the power to protect and serve yourself?” The EP features co-production by Greg Wells (“Teen Spirit”), GB (“Lazy Daze”), and LA-based lyricist DefSound. Full of synths, alluring vocals, and distinct production, the seductive twosome provide a dreamy soundscape for listeners to lose themselves in. Jack Davey and Brook leave all interpretations up to the listener.

“We cannot provide the message, we simply provide the mental playground for the listeners’ minds to go wild upon,” says Brook.

Just when you thought the video for “Get Together” was odd, J*DaVeY is back to throw you yet another curve ball in the corner pocket.  From the Boudoir Synema EP, here’s the surreal, minimalistic take on “Outta the Window.”  This was directed by Veronica “V-Chip” Hinds (the same director as the previous video).  According to the official description, “Jack Davey & Brook D’Leau summon the psychedelic indian on a quest for self-discovery in a desert wasteland.”  This is definitely an upbeat ride over rocky terrain and laser beams.  Sign me up for the next departure.

To be quite frank, this video is freaky and straight up weird. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from the California dreamin’ duo known as J*DaVeY.  “Get Together” just happens to be my favorite track on the Boudoir Synema EP (which you can grab here) and I love the airy, ethereal vibe of this video.  Kudos to director Veronica “V-Chip” Hinds for the floaty feel.  I think the interpretation of the visuals are up to the viewer.  I’m still not sure exactly how to define it.  But that hint of mystery is what makes J*DaVeY dope to begin with.

Miss Jack Davey and Brook D’Leau are the two-person Voltron (cuz they’re that ill) that form J*DaVeY.  And folks, such as myself, have been salivating for what feels like forever to hear what they have in store for their major label debut, New Designer Drug.  Here’s a little freebie so you can get addicted now and come back for more.  Granted, this song may be old to some folks.  But I’m glad that they filmed a fun video for this one.  If you’ve never seen them live before, it pretty much captures their kinetic and frenetic energy perfectly.  I can’t wait to hear more.

This is pretty big for the homies Jack (the girl) and Brook (the dude).  The above video is J*DaVeY performing their brand new single “Dollar or More” on Ellen.  Jack Davey used to work on the show for two seasons before leaving to pursue the music thang hardcore.  And now that things are bubblin’, Ellen invited ‘em back to perform on the show.  For lack of a better cliche phrase:  this is a GREAT look.
