Off the somewhat-ancient Love, Money & Music album by the homie 8thW1, peep the video for “Drunken Saturday,” filmed by Court Dunn for Restless Films.  This is probably the most fun and to-the-left joint on the album.  And it was obviously begging for some visual accompaniment.  So what do you do?  Dance around your bedroom in your underwear, call some friends, put on some clothes and then do it all over again at a bar.  Simple and genius concept.

p.s. If you know what I look like, you can easily find me two-stepping with a bottle of beer in hand.  I didn’t show enough emotion and I regret it.  It was cold out.

The 2 Hungry Bros. made a nice, indelible stamp on the game when they released the free My Crew’s All Thinner mixtape.  They plan on making another power move this summer with an all-new production album called No Room for Dessert.  Let the leakage begin.  Here’s one of the tracks from the album, “Stupidface,” featuring an incredible emcee and great friend of this very blog, 8thW1.  I’ve featured alot of his work here before.  And the bar just keeps getting raised.

Over the weekend, 8thW1 hit me on the Twitter: “I just sent you something.”  I knew it was gonna be music.  8th has quickly become one of my favorite up-and-comers as far as NYC goes.  The joint is called “Sound Quality Convo.”  Basically a rugged platform to vent about folks who complain about how a song may be lacking in the mixing department but meanwhile downloaded the thing for free anyway.  Alot of emcees today have taken music into their own hands.  You no longer have to go and spend dough on studio time if you have a basement, an ill computer and Pro Tools.  Or Reason.  Or Garage Band.  See my point?  Respect the craft and the grind.

Oh and I didn’t even catch until after the third listen or so that 8th gave Trees for Breakfast its first ever mention on record.  So big ups to him.  I don’t want my rep to grow as the guy who posts everything late LOL.  My motto though:  “It’s always gonna be new to SOMEBODY.”  Produced by Mentplus.

Every now and then, the homie 8thW1 will drop a gem or two in my inbox and I get amped every time.  I just learned about the AOK Collective emcee this year thanks to the good folks at Homebase NYC.  I became an instant fan.  And apparently, so did a bunch of you out there in Internet-land.  Y’all hit the site up crazy when I posted “Flawed” back in September.  So here’s some more fire. 

First off we got “Song of Random Thoughts,” which is pretty self-explanatory (produced by Quiryoga).  And the other is “Who Am I Kiddin,” where 8thW1 jacks / loops up one of Kanye’s melancholy 808s & Heartbreaks beats and assumes the “sucker for love” role quite convincingly.

Another joint from out of left field that renews and rejuvenates my love for hip-hop.  Big up to 2dopeboyz for posting this.  The joint is by Jersey emcee 8thw1 (simply pronounced 8TH ONE, out of the AOK Collective) with the homies (and personal favorites) Che Grand and Tanya Morgan‘s own Von Pea on the guest spots. 

The beat (produced by Sincere aka Young Jedi) is just disgusting.  It has this sloppy RZA-ish / Madlib-ish incomplete cadence that I am diggin’ something terrible.  Not everyone can rap over beats like these.  These guys…yup.
