Fonzworth Bentley – “Fireside Chat”

While over at the homie Frank’s mega-blog Rappers I Know, I stumbled upon the above video. And I loved it as soon as the beat dropped. I dunno if Fonzworth Bentley has been really working hard on the music thing or just doing it for fun. I hope it’s the former, because every time I hear him on something, it’s freakin’ dope.  Remember “Everybody?”  And have you ever heard his “Deal Breakers” joint on 88-Keys’ fantastic Adam’s Case Files mixtape from 2008? Well, another pearl has surfaced.  A pearl of wisdom, that is.

Don’t let the song title fool you. This isn’t some smoothed-out, lovey-dovey pimp monologue on the bear skin rug.  It’s an actual conversation with some topical subject matter and a very strong message.  In short, we gotta get our sh*t together, open our eyes / minds and stop being so complacent in our sometimes contradictory ways.  I know it’s easier to talk about than to be about it.  But it’s never too late to make the change (even though I’m wild late posting this because it was something special for Black History Month…my bad).  I’m still holding out for that C.O.L.O.U.R.S. album.

In the meantime, you can download the joint below and do some heavy thinking.
