First of all, I had no idea Gil Scott-Heron was working on new material. Secondly, this first single from his forthcoming album I’m New Here (slated to drop on Feb 9) is SICK. Very dark and very haunting. Not everything can be sunshine and flowers, folks. The imagery in this is just incredibly dope. Goes very nicely with the subject matter of the song. Maybe I’m just biased because I’m from NYC but it was executed perfectly. Manhattan’s hard exterior is a perfect match.
We can thank Coodie & Chike along with Michael Sterling Eaton for the visuals. By the way, I found this on Drake’s blog. What can I say? The folks over at the October’s Very Own camp have exceptional taste.
