One of the biggest buzzed-about groups of this last quarter of 2009 has without a doubt been New Zealand soul / electronic band Electric Wire Hustle. Thanks to my best friend DJ Tara for putting me on a few weeks back. Do your research if you haven’t. The lead singer of EWH is a gentleman by the name of Mara TK.
He has a gravy smooth vocal range that has traces of Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye interlaced throughout. Back in 2007, he was selected to be a “student” in the now famous Red Bull Music Academy and recorded this track with Seattle hip-hop producer extraordinaire and “classmate” Jake One. And this gem was birthed.
