presents Aaliyah Revisted (Tribute EP)

Those kids across the pond at Soul Culture are CRAZY for this one. This was a pleasant surprise. For those of you that don’t know, today (August 25th) marks the 8th anniversary of the day that Aaliyah passed in a tragic plane accident shortly after wrapping up her “Rock the Boat” video shoot in the Caribbean. I’ll never forget the night one of my best friends texted me with the news. I didn’t believe it at first until I turned on the radio and heard nothing but Aaliyah songs on a mix show that usually played hip-hop. Still sad to this day. But as always, even though the person may not be here in the physical sense, the music will still live on eternally. curated this fantastic EP with some of today’s hottest progressive and contemporary soul acts and had them do covers of some of Aaliyah’s classics. Some of the artists are no strangers to this blog (shouts to the homies AFTA-1 and Jesse Boykins III). Some are brand spanking new to me. In any case, definitely download this when you get the chance. Celebrate life always. Damn, I gotta visit the UK like…SOON.
