All the props in the universe go to the homegirl Vettie Vette for this one. This 18-minute educational flick was created by a gentleman by the name of Nate Harrison in 2004 and posted on YouTube on February 21st, 2006. Well over 3 years ago. Late pass be damned. This is great. Whether you’re a bedroom beatmaker or not, this is worth the watch. I’m going to jack the description from YouTube because I can’t explain it any better than what it says right there:
“This fascinating, brilliant video narrates the history of the “Amen Break,” a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music — a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison’s 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip.”
